Arizona man injures 30 after crashing into Elks Lodge, charged with DUI: police

An Arizona man is in custody after allegedly crashing his car into an Elks Lodge Saturday night, injuring 30 people.

According to Apache Junction Police, 73-year-old Thomas Cain is accused of crashing his truck into the lodge at 8:27 p.m. while attempting to leave the property while intoxicated.

Kane was charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault, 17 counts of wanton endangerment and a misdemeanor DUI charge.

“Ten people were transported by ambulance to multiple hospitals and 15 others were treated at the scene for minor injuries, while at least five others made their own way to local hospitals for further medical evaluation,” according to a release from the Apache Junction Police Department.

A second person injured in the accident is in a “critical but stable” condition and is expected to recover.

Police say they are awaiting blood test results to determine how much alcohol Kane had consumed before driving.

The Arizona Department of Liquor License and Control is also “conducting its own investigation” into the incident and the circumstances leading up to it.

“Drunk driving severely impairs reaction time, judgment and motor skills, putting everyone on the road at risk,” the Apache Junction Police Department said in a statement. “Despite the severity of this incident, we are fortunate that no lives were lost; however, the outcome could have been much worse.”

It is unclear when Cains' first court appearance will be scheduled.

The Apache Junction Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for further comment from Fox News Digital.
