North Carolina State Police say a man Captured Surveillance video showed him entering a gas station restroom and beating a woman to death with a hammer.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said they responded to a report of a woman found bleeding at a QuikTrip in north Charlotte around 11:15 p.m. on August 17. They found 47-year-old Grandina Dixon bleeding from her head, and she was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
“God says forgive, but right now I can't forgive her because she doesn't deserve it.”
Investigators reviewed security footage from inside the store, which showed the man chasing Dixon into the store and then returning to his black truck to get a hammer. The footage reportedly shows the man chasing Dixon into the women's restroom and striking her severely in the head with the hammer. The man was in the restroom for just 40 seconds.
Police identified the man as 53-year-old Sam Lawrie, and detectives confirmed he and the victim knew each other for some time.
He was arrested on a first-degree murder charge and held on $1 million bail.
WCNC-TV reported that Loarey was convicted of second-degree murder in 1989 when he was 18 and was released in 1995.
Ms Dixon's family and friends held a prayer vigil in her memory.
“We don't understand why. I want to know why. I'm angry.” said “God says forgive, but right now I can't forgive her because she doesn't deserve it,” James Love told WCNC.
