The lawyer for a 17-year-old charged with attempted murder for shooting 49ers first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall in the chest during an attempted robbery earlier this month argues his client did not mean to kill Pearsall.
“it is A fairly long-running struggle Between Mr. Pearsall and my client said Public defender Robert Dunlap said, via David Lombardi of TheAthletic.com: “They were fighting violently on the sidewalk and, as you can imagine, Mr. Pearsall had the upper hand. He, I don't know if he's ever wrestled, but he did a hip toss, throwing my client to the ground and collapsing on top of him.” [the video] They claim this was an attempted robbery, not an attempted murder.”
Dunlap also disputed the report that his client brought a gun to school.
“My client did not have a gun at the school,” Dunlap said. “This is a false report.”
Prosecutors have decided to charge Dunlap with attempted murder but have not yet decided whether to charge him as an adult. His next hearing is scheduled for September 26.
