House GOP majority would block Iran peace deal efforts under a President Harris, top Republican vows

ExclusiveAccording to Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, the third-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives, Republicans will do everything in their power to block the Harris administration from negotiating a new Iran nuclear deal.

“We will stop it by any means necessary,” the Republican conference chairman vowed in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital.

“Biden and Kamala Harris are providing hundreds of billions of dollars directly to Iran, the largest state sponsor of terror, which in turn supports proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah that attack Israel every day.”

Two separate agreements last fall that included prisoner swaps allowed Iran to access up to $16 billion in previously frozen assets.

Middle East experts predict that Vice President Kamala Harris is far more likely to come to the negotiating table to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, rather than using military deterrence or financial sanctions.

In 2019, Harris Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) It aims to restrict Iran's nuclear program.

“President Trump's unilateral withdrawal from an agreement that would have verifiably prevented Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, despite warnings from his closest allies and with no plan for what happens next, is beyond reckless,” she said.

She said she would seek to rejoin the deal “as long as Iran also returns to verifiable compliance.”

“I will impose strong sanctions on countries that deserve them. And I will lift the sanctions because they would mean losing Iran and Russia. China is trying to make its currency the major currency.”

In a wide-ranging interview about House Republicans' national security priorities, Stefanik, a member of the Intelligence and Armed Services committees, said that if Republicans retain control of the House in the next Congress, they will continue efforts to end funding for the United Nations Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and “address and stop foreign money from flowing into universities.”

In March, President Biden signed a budget bill that banned funding to UNRWA for one year after it was revealed that some of its staff had ties to Hamas.

“I am deeply concerned about the lack of accountability for the billions of dollars that have gone to Ukraine,” she said. “We are receiving report after report from the Department of Defense of billions of dollars in unaccounted funds.”

“Trump is the only person who can resolve this conflict,” Stefanik added. “If you look at modern presidents, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin has invaded other countries like every other modern president except for Trump.”

And on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Stefanik made it clear she wasn't convinced the United States was prepared to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again.

“If you look at the attacks against Israel, Iran [are] “The same terrorists who are shouting 'Death to Israel,' are also shouting 'Death to America,'” she said. “We have individuals on our open border terrorist watch list. … This is a national security threat.”
