Harris ‘Dodged’ on Border, Economy, Was Vague on Israel

During Wednesday's broadcast of CNN's “The Lead,” host Jake Tapper noted that during Tuesday's debate, Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, was vague about whether people's lives are better than they were four years ago, whether she would handle the border differently than President Joe Biden, and how she would handle the Israel-Hamas war, while former President Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential candidate, dodged questions about abortion bans and the Ukraine-Russia war.

Tapper began the segment by saying, “There are a lot of reasons why this debate didn't go well for Trump, not the least of which would be his astonishingly stupid lie about immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, eating the neighborhood cats and dogs.” The segment then went on to say that Trump's statement about Springfield was a “fairly racist” lie, the most ridiculous topic discussed in a presidential debate, and a result of Trump being trapped in a “silo of misinformation.”

He added that “neither Trump nor Harris were able to honestly answer questions about how they would specifically run the country.”

Tapper also noted that Harris skipped over whether Americans are better off than they were four years ago, “evaded” whether she would approach the border differently than President Joe Biden and gave no specific details about how she would achieve a ceasefire and hostage agreement in the Israeli-Hamas war.

“Meanwhile, Trump has been busy avoiding answering big questions like whether he would veto a nationwide abortion ban or whether it's in America's interest to see Ukraine beaten by Russia,” she added.

Tapper also said Trump's claim that he “had nothing to do with the tragedy of January 6th” is patently false and astonishing.
