Trump pledges to eliminate taxes on overtime pay

Former President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he would eliminate all taxes on overtime pay if elected to the White House.

“As part of additional tax cuts, I will eliminate all taxes on overtime work,” Trump promised at a rally in Tucson, Arizona, a key battleground state in the 2024 election.

The former president argued that his plan would “incentivize people to work” and make it easier for businesses to attract workers.

“Not taxing overtime will create a whole new workforce,” Trump said.

The 78-year-old Republican candidate argued that “people who work overtime are some of the hardest working citizens in our country” and said they deserve more support from politicians in the nation's capital.

“And for too long, nobody in Washington cared about them,” Trump said.

The 45th President suggested the policy would allow police officers, nurses, factory workers, construction workers, truck drivers, machine operators and others to “finally get some rest.”

“If you're an overtime worker, consider that any overtime you work over 40 hours a week is tax-exempt,” he said to raucous cheers.

“You're working hard,” he said of workers putting in overtime, and argued that economists say the proposal would “bring money into our economy.”

President Trump has previously proposed eliminating taxes on tipped wages and eliminating the taxes seniors pay on Social Security benefits.

He argued that these policies, along with eliminating taxes on overtime pay and preserving the 2017 tax cuts, would be part of a way to “end the period of inflation, chaos and misery under the Kamala Administration.” [Harris] And Crooked Joe [Biden] “I will establish a government that will bring safety, prosperity and peace to Americans of every race, religion, color and creed.”

Trump also announced at the rally that he would ban illegal immigrants from getting mortgages or renting federally subsidized apartments.

“When I return to the White House, I will require citizenship verification for all businesses that receive federal housing subsidies,” he said. “I will make legal residency a condition of rental agreements.”

“We cannot allow illegal immigrants to become an additional burden on the American people,” Trump told the rally.

The Republican candidate first hinted at the idea of banning home loans from illegal immigrants in a speech to the Economic Club of New York last week.

Regarding banks lending mortgages to illegal immigrants, he said, “That's not acceptable.”

The former president also promised executive action to “eliminate all unnecessary regulations that drive up housing prices,” aiming to cut the cost of building new homes by 30 to 50 percent.

“I've been a builder my whole life,” Trump said of his plan to “make America affordable again.”

“I understand the problem and I will solve it.”
