A judge has dismissed two criminal charges against former President Donald Trump and one against an ally of the former president in a 2020 election interference case in Georgia.
Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee ruled that Georgia prosecutors did not have the authority to bring charges related to the alleged filing of false documents in federal court.

“President Trump and the state of Georgia's legal team have won again,” Trump lawyer Steve Sadow said in a statement. “The court has determined that counts 15 and 27 of the indictment should be vacated/dismissed.”
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis charged Trump in connection with alleged interference in the 2020 election. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Earlier this year, a judge dismissed six charges against Trump, saying Willis had not alleged enough details.
The case was left in limbo after it was reported that Willis had an “inappropriate relationship” with Nathan Wade, a prosecutor she hired to help with the case against Trump, who was later fired.

In June, the Georgia Court of Appeals suspended proceedings until a hearing in October on Willis's challenge to disbarment — another major setback for Willis.
The Georgia Court of Appeals announced it would hear Trump's argument to disqualify Willis on Dec. 5, one month after the 2024 presidential election.
In a separate ruling on Thursday, McAfee upheld organized crime charges in the case brought against all of the defendants.
