California woman awoke to find homeless man fondling her and exposing himself, police say

California Police say A woman was sleeping in her Santa Monica home when a homeless intruder groped her while naked, police said.

Santa Monica Police Department said Suspect Anthony Townson, 34, broke into the woman's home on Seventh Avenue around 4 a.m. Saturday.

“We are not getting the help we need and it is seriously affecting us.”

The woman told police she woke up to Townson rubbing her legs and exposing himself to her. She fled the scene and called police, while Townson fled the scene.

Police arrested a man nearby and said they determined he had gained access to the woman's home through an unlocked sliding door on a second-floor terrace.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has filed felony charges against the man for burglary and indecent exposure during the trespassing incident.

The man also had a criminal history that included trespass, assault on a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering on private property and possession of a controlled substance.

City officials have come under pressure from residents to tackle homeless crime after several recent horrific incidents. In one horrific incident in May, a homeless man allegedly grabbed a woman by the ponytail as she was jogging on the beach and tried to drag her into a public toilet before a passerby intervened. In another incident in August, a man allegedly climbed on top of a woman sunbathing and sexually assaulted her.

The mayor said: KTLA Television They called for help from state and even federal officials.

“We are not getting the help we need, our 8.3 square mile city is severely impacted, we have nearly 1,000 homeless people on the streets, we need help!” said Phil Block.
