Jets’ fast start on offense set table for dominant win over Patriots

The Jets entered their home opener against the Patriots on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium with a few main goals in mind.

The first one was clear: win the game and make it 2-1 after starting 0-1 down.

To accomplish that, the Jets believed the next thing they needed to do was get off to a fast start on offense, something they didn't do in their first two games.

They accomplished both goals, beating New England at home for the first time since 2015, beating the longtime nemesis Patriots 24-3.

It was a quick start on offense for the Jets that set the stage for the win.

They scored touchdowns on two of their first three drives and their first possession of the second half.

The Jets missed three straight attempts in their first five in the season opener at San Francisco, and then Hall fumbled in their own half.

In Sunday's win at Tennessee, the Jets started the game with two three-and-outs and three consecutive punts, but got away with it due to the Titans' offensive ineptitude.

Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson said before Thursday night's game that it's “super important” for the offense to get off to a fast start.

“Once we get going, if we get off to a good start, I think it will fuel us for the rest of the game,” Wilson said. “That's what we're working on. We want to go in with the mindset that we want to score first, we want to score on the first drive. We've got to have that mindset. We've got to go out there and execute on that.”

The Jets failed to score on their first possession of the game but took a 7-0 lead on their second possession, capped by Aaron Rodgers' 10-yard scoring pass to Allen Lazard.

The Jets went 91 yards in 13 plays on their second drive and took a 14-0 lead on Hall's 1-yard scoring run.

They started the second half well, taking a 21-3 lead on their first possession of the third quarter with a 2-yard scoring pass from Rodgers to Garrett Wilson.
