Eric Adams Claims He is DOJ ‘Target’ for Speaking About Migrant Crisis

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who has been indicted on federal corruption charges, has claimed that he is being “targeted” by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for speaking out publicly about illegal immigration. But several other Democrats have done similar things and have not been indicted on federal charges by the Justice Department.

On Thursday, federal prosecutors unveiled an indictment against Adams, charging him with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bribery by receiving campaign contributions from foreign nationals, one count of wire fraud and soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals. He was indicted on two counts of criminal activity and one count of soliciting campaign funds from foreigners. Charge of soliciting and receiving bribes.

According to the indictment, for nearly a decade, Adams used his political power in New York City to secure illegal campaign contributions and prestigious overseas travel, particularly from Turkish authorities, in exchange for preferential treatment from city government. Ta.

In his defense, Adams claims he is a “target” of the Justice Department because of his public comments about illegal immigration and its impact on New York City.

When the federal government's broken immigration policies overburdened the shelter system with no relief and the federal government did nothing, I put the people of New York over political parties and politics.. Now, if I were to be charged, many people might say I should resign… Don't get me wrong, you elected me to lead this city, and I'm not going to do that. I will instruct you. [Emphasis added]

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denied such claims Thursday.

“The president has made it clear that he's going to make sure that the Justice Department is independent, and the Justice Department is handling this case independently,” Jean-Pierre said.

Hundreds of thousands of immigrants have arrived in the city over the past three years, and Adams said the problem would “destroy” the city.

“I've never had a problem in my life where I couldn't see an end in sight,” Adams said last September. “There's no end in sight to this. There's no end in sight to this. This problem is destroying New York City, it's going to destroy New York City. We're admitting 10,000 immigrants a month. ”

Adams said earlier this year that with hundreds of thousands of migrants arriving from the U.S.-Mexico border, New York City is “literally running out of room.”

Adams has never called on President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris to stop the flow of immigrants into the United States, instead calling for a “fair distribution” of immigrants across American communities. We have regularly asked the government to do so.

Adams' pleas to Biden and Harris include expediting work permits for newly arrived immigrants, increasing taxpayer funding to states and cities that accept immigrants, and increasing the number of immigrants already living in the U.S. by 11 million. It included amnesty for 22 million illegal immigrants.

In response to the immigration crisis, Adams also launched a massive taxpayer-funded scheme to transfer wealth into the hands of the city's powerful hotel industry, paying hotel owners to It became an immigrant hotel, and thousands of immigrants continue to stay there today.

Most recently, Adams began providing thousands of immigrants with preloaded debit cards, paid for by city taxpayers.

Adams claims the Justice Department is targeting him because he has been vocal about illegal immigration, even though several other Democrats have been vocal as well. , has not been indicted by federal prosecutors.

Just this year, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) said New Yorkers needed a “break” from the influx of illegal immigrants into the state.

Late last year, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) sent a letter to the Biden-Harris administration complaining that illegal immigrants place a “tremendous burden” on the state's taxpayers, calling the immigration crisis “unbearable.” called the situation.

Similarly, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) sent a letter to Biden and Harris in December asking them to cover more than $500 million in costs to state taxpayers related to illegal immigration. I appealed to the government.
