Israel Shells Hezbollah Positions; Lebanese, United Nations Troops Pull Back

The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reportedly withdrew from the Lebanon-Israel border as Israel began shelling Hezbollah positions ahead of a ground offensive on Monday night.

As Breitbart News reported citing other media reports, Israel had told the US it planned to conduct “limited” ground operations in Lebanon to dismantle Hezbollah outposts.

Reports circulated on Monday that LAF and UNIFIL had withdrawn. Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that the LAF began redeploying troops in response to information from the United States about the movement of Israeli troops.

There were also unconfirmed reports that UNIFIL, which is supposed to enforce UN Security Council resolutions against Hezbollah's presence near the border but has not been able to do so, has also withdrawn from some positions.
