MSNBC host Ari Melber expressed shock Wednesday that a star witness in Donald Trump's first impeachment inquiry supported the former president.
In 2019, Gordon Sondland, then the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, testified as a key witness in President Trump's first impeachment inquiry, saying that President Trump would not be allowed to leave Ukraine unless it investigated Joe Biden and his president. He was accused of abusing his power as president by withholding military aid from the United States. son, Hunter Biden; Sondland's Testimony implicates Trump and other government officials. But two days after the Senate acquitted Trump, Sondland was fired.

“No, I don't support it, and I'll tell you why,” Sondland replied. “After four years of living under the Biden-Harris policies, I have to say that these policies are becoming an existential threat not only to our country's way of life, but also to our allies.”
The answer made Melver furious, and he interrupted Sondland and shouted,
“Let me just say this is so shocking! Then after January 6th you said 'no to me' and now here we are and you says it's a 'yes'.' 'For you? ” interjected the MSNBC host.
“That's a yes for me. That's a total yes for me,” Sondland responded. “That's how badly the Biden-Harris team prosecuted their job.”
Mr. Melber was beside himself, unable to understand why Mr. Sondland supported Mr. Trump. And when Melber brought up the argument that January 6th was “a kind of attack on democracy,” [that] is more important than any policy.'' Mr. Sondland quickly shut down the topic.
“We're seeing so many attacks on our democracy that we ignore January 6th,” Sondland said.
Later in the interview, Sondland reiterated that he supports President Trump because he believes the Biden-Harris administration has destroyed America.

At the time, Mr. Sondland argued that Mr. Trump had the solution to rebuilding America, which had declined under Mr. Biden's leadership. The Democratic Party's selection of Vice President Kamala Harris as its presidential nominee apparently only solidified Mr. Sondland's views.
