New Evidence May Challenge Trump’s 2019 Impeachment
Members of Congress are suggesting that fresh information released by the Director of National Intelligence could nullify one of the impeachment cases against former President Donald Trump.
Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, claims that the accusations of Trump’s collusion with Russia were unfounded.
Luna stated, “This was a terrible lie that divided the nation, contrived by politicized intelligence agencies during the Obama administration.”
Trump was impeached in 2019 on charges related to abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, stemming from his effort to persuade Ukraine to investigate corruption allegations against the Biden family ahead of the 2020 elections.
Luna argues that the new evidence contradicts the impeachment arguments. She declared on social media, “I will propose a resolution to annul President Trump’s fraudulent impeachment. The alleged Russian collusion never took place.”
A report from DNI Tulsi Gabbard indicated that the investigation into Trump’s phone call resulted from a “fabricated narrative” instigated by his political opponents.
Luna remarked, “This was a dreadful falsehood that fractured our country, orchestrated by armed intelligence agencies, and the fallout can’t even be measured. It has harmed family ties and strained relationship dynamics with another nuclear power, Russia, potentially leading to war.”
Nonetheless, she expressed hope that initiatives are underway to repair these relations, emphasizing that historical records should accurately reflect the truth.
In a significant turn, Gabbard has announced her resignation from the DNI position, citing her husband’s serious medical condition involving an extremely rare form of bone cancer.
Trump is reportedly looking to appoint former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton as Gabbard’s successor.
It’s worth noting that Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in 2019, but the Senate acquitted him. Again, in 2021, he faced a second impeachment related to the events of January 6, which also concluded without a conviction in the Senate.
Trump has famously described impeachment as “a dirty, filthy, disgusting word,” characterizing the situation in 2019 as “monstrous presidential harassment.”
