Obama to kick off campaign swing for Harris in key battleground state of Pennsylvania

Harris' first campaign stop for Obama will be in the Pittsburgh area on October 10, according to campaign officials. The former president is then expected to visit other battleground states in the days leading up to the election.

The former president held a solo fundraiser for Harris in Los Angeles last month, raising $4 million. Less than a week after President Biden withdrew from the race and Harris became the top Democratic candidate, Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama endorsed Harris. Mr. Obama was widely seen as behind the scenes in a campaign to pressure Mr. Biden to resign in July.

Their support was highly anticipated, as other Democrats rallied behind Harris within days of her campaign. This came in the form of a video of a phone call in which the Democratic couple expressed their support for Harris.

Harris and Obama's friendship goes back 20 years, when they met while campaigning for the Senate, a campaign official said. Harris was an early supporter of Obama's success in the 2008 presidential race, knocking on doors for Obama in Iowa before the caucuses.

The Obamas gave their most memorable speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August. The former president called for overcoming the nation's divisions, while the former first lady slammed former President Trump in her remarks.
