On HBO's “Real Time” broadcast Friday, host Bill Maher said he was frustrated by people saying, “Well, let's call a truce.” “The best time to achieve a ceasefire is immediately after Israel is attacked,” he said. “Israel has wanted a two-state solution from the beginning,” he said. But “Gaza was a Palestinian state. They just used it to attack Israel.”
Maher said: “Israel wanted a two-state solution from the beginning. They gave Gaza back. It wasn't theirs, they weren't running it. They had their own state. What were you doing at that time? Gaza was a Palestinian state. They just used it to attack Israel. That's why it's so frustrating when people say, “Let's have a ceasefire.” The best time to conclude a ceasefire is immediately after Israel is attacked. ”
He added:[O]This location has always required a two-state solution. Well, lately it's been shaky. Because you can only be at the negotiating table for so long. [have] It spurred, [before] You're a little tired of closing that deal. And some places have never wanted a two-state solution before. Their only way to end this is for us to wipe you out and take everything from you. So, let's start from there. That's why, in my opinion, it's a little frustrating to hear puzzling opinions on this issue. ”
