Last weekend, President-elect Donald Trump announced a nationwide push for concealed carry reciprocity that would make one state's concealed carry permit valid in 49 other states.
On Sunday, Don Trump Jr. Post to Instagram“Dawn! My father just announced concealed carry reciprocity. The Second Amendment survives and continues to be protected. ”
Texas Gun Rights posted a video of President Trump's reciprocity declaration to X.
On September 18, 2015, just months after Trump launched his first presidential campaign, Breitbart News pointed to a policy document in which Trump said:
The right to self-defense doesn't stop at the end of your driveway. That's why I have a concealed carry permit, and why tens of millions of Americans do too. That permit must be valid in all 50 states. Since a driver's license is valid in any state, it is common sense that a concealed carry permit is also valid in any state. If you can do that with driving, that's a privilege, not a right, but you can certainly do that with concealed carry, but that's a right, not a privilege.
And during the 2020 presidential campaign, Trump continued to support state reciprocity. In an interview with the NRA's First Freedom, Trump was asked: Mr. President, while state driver's licenses are respected throughout this great nation, permits to carry concealed firearms, by contrast, are a specially protected right in the U.S. Bill of Rights, but other states It is often not respected. Would you support the National Reciprocity Act so that law-abiding gun owners can travel more easily and freely?”
President Trump's response is, “Yes.”
