Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) will be nominated by President Donald Trump to be the nation's top law enforcement official, attorney general.
Gaetz has been one of Trump's most ardent defenders in Congress and has traveled the country campaigning for the president. His nomination is a clear signal that Trump is serious about his promise to “drain the swamp” in Washington.

Gaetz rose to prominence in Congress through his tough questioning of Biden administration officials on the House Judiciary Committee.
Gaetz could face a difficult confirmation battle, but Trump is almost certain to push recalcitrant senators to secure Gaetz's confirmation.

Gaetz is one of the most well-known conservative figures in Congress and is certain to have strong support from the grassroots.
Trump continued to praise Gaetz and revealed how he would cast Gaetz in the role.
“Matt will root out systemic corruption at the Department of Justice and return the department to its original mission of fighting crime and defending our democracy and the Constitution,” Trump said in a subsequent post. “There must be honesty, integrity, and transparency in the Department of Justice. Under Matt's leadership, all Americans will once again be proud of our Department.”
