US soccer player Christian Pulisic said he did not intend to make a political statement when he performed the “Trump dance” after scoring a goal on Monday.

Several of Pulisic's teammates also joined in on his Trump dance routine.

But Pulisic now insists the dance was not about politics. To him, the little dance is just “funny” and fun to do.

“Well, obviously, that's Trump's dance,” the player said. The Athletic. “It was just a dance that everyone was doing. He was the one who created it. He just thought it was funny.

“This is not a political dance. It was just for fun. It was fun because I saw a lot of people doing it and thought it was funny. I hope at least some people do it.” '', the soccer star insisted.

Pulisic and his teammates are just one example of a growing number of athletes who jump like Trump after a great play.

The “Trump dance” has exploded across the NFL over the past two weeks. It started in week 10. The 49ers' Nick Bosa celebrated the Dolphins quarterback's firing by doing a little Donald Trump dance. And the following week, players from the other three teams joined in on the dance craze.

Athletes from other sports are also joining in on the boom. Also this week, LPGA golfer Charlie Hull showed off Trump's quick dance moves on the course. And UFC fighter Jon Jones performed his own version of the dance last weekend.
