A teenage girl said her father threatened her with an “honor killing” before attempting to strangle her outside a Washington state high school.
It all happened on October 18th outside Timberline High in Lacey. KOMO-TV reported. Lacey is located a few minutes east of Olympia and just over an hour southwest of Seattle.
The girl's mother, Zaraa Ali, also grabbed her daughter and strangled her, KOMO said, citing court documents. Investigators told police that the girl's father also hit her boyfriend.
The 17-year-old victim told investigators that her father had called her an “honor killing” because she refused to go to another country for an arranged marriage with an older man, KOMO said, citing court records. He reportedly stated that he had received threats.
The station noted that she reportedly went to the school to seek help, which led to a confrontation outside the school.
Josh Wagner told KOMO that he and his family were driving near the high school when they noticed a group of children fighting. But when Wagner jumped in to intervene, authorities said they noticed the man strangling the girl.
“The father lay on his back and the daughter was on top of him, putting her in a chokehold,” Wagner explained to KOMO.
He told police: “It was pretty upsetting. We didn't know what was going on or why. All the kids were screaming and screaming.”
KOMO reported that court records say Ihsan Ali choked his 17-year-old daughter “to the point of unconsciousness” and other students, including the girl's boyfriend, tried to pull her away. has been done.
“What I saw was an adult man putting a teenage girl in a headlock and choking her from behind, and when I took her arms off of her, she got up and went with another child. He said he ran. [I] I came to find out that it was her boyfriend and that she was the daughter of an adult man,” Wagner added to the station. “So I just held him on the ground until the police arrived and then… [they] They handcuffed him, searched him and transported him to a police car. ”

The girl quickly ran away and ran into the school screaming, “My dad is trying to kill me, he's trying to kill me,” and a lockdown was put in place as school officials prevented the girl's parents from getting to her. KOMO said, citing court testimony. document.
The girl's parents were arrested and face criminal charges including assault, attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, the department said.

According to court documents, the victim ran away from home the day before the attack and went to Timberline High School, where he was a former student, to ask staff for help. A counselor was helping her find a room at Safe Haven, and the victim was planning to take a city bus there after school, but was allegedly taken off the bus by her father.
The mother's bail is set at $500,000. The father's bail is set at $1 million, the Chronicle reported, adding that the parents are being held at the Thurston County Jail. The next public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4 at 9 a.m., the paper added.
“This is not right. In the current climate after the election, the more we continue to allow these types of actions to take place in a society where there is simply no place for such activities anywhere.” ” Burns told KOMO.

Burns also told KOMO that issues with the Ali family have been going on for months and that a temporary protection order was filed against the mother, Zaher Ali, due to a previous physical incident. KOMO reached out to the Department of Children, Youth and Families to see if the agency was investigating the Ali family, but was told child welfare records are confidential, the agency said.
