Trump Names Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Labor Secretary Nominee

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Congresswoman Lori Chavez Delemer (R-Ore.) to be Secretary of Labor in the next administration.

President Trump announced Delemer as Labor's nominee on Friday night.

“Lori has worked tirelessly with both businesses and workers to build America's workforce and support America's hardworking men and women,” President Trump said, adding that she is proud of their collaboration and support for America's working men and women. He added that he is looking forward to the opportunity to wait for power.

I look forward to working with her to create greater opportunities for American workers, expand training and apprenticeships, raise wages, improve working conditions, and bring back manufacturing jobs. Together, we will create a historic collaboration between business and labor that will restore the American Dream to working families.

President Trump emphasized that Chavez Delemer has strong support from both the business and labor communities.

Lori's strong support from both the business and labor communities has led the Department of Labor to achieve unprecedented national success in our agenda to make America richer, richer, stronger, and more prosperous than ever before. We can unite Americans of all backgrounds behind it.

Chavez-Deremer tweeted shortly after President Trump's announcement, expressing his excitement and gratitude.

“Thank you for this opportunity, President Trump!” Chavez Delemer wrote. “Working class Americans finally have a lifeline with you in the White House.”

He added, “Now is the time to take our economy to new heights and ensure a prosperous future for all hardworking Americans.”

Chavez Delemer has been serving as Oregon's 5th Congressman since 2022. Prior to being elected to the House of Representatives, he served two terms as Mayor of Happy Valley from 2010 to 2018, and prior to that as Chairman of the Happy Valley City Council.

Chavez Delemer and her husband, Dr. Sean Delemer, have opened several clinics in the Northwest and also started an anesthesia management company.
