On Tuesday's broadcast of MSNBC's “Morning Joe,” Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) said President-elect Donald Trump won the 2024 election because of unaffordable food prices. “Because New York had Governor Abbott of Texas,” he said. They continued to send immigrants to New York without notice and without doing anything. ”
“People chose Donald Trump for two reasons. One is the economy, because when they go to the store, they… [weren’t] If you look at the stock market and things like that, when they went to the store, the price of food was more than they could afford to pay. So I saw people eating unnamed milk or cheese or things of that nature. So that was the problem. And immigration, because New York had Governor Abbott of Texas, who kept sending immigrants into New York without any notice, without any notice. So that's what they saw. ”
He added that Democrats must “try to be considerate of the people so they understand that we care about and value their daily lives and well-being.”
Meeks previously said Democrats “were not strong enough to make people feel like they understood their problem: the cost of groceries.”
