Margoliash then hit her in the head with a flashlight, causing minor injuries. She succeeded in taking the flashlight from Margoliash, but her husband got into a fistfight with the suspect in order to force him from the house.

During the fight, Margoliash bit the man's hand. The man eventually forced Margoliash out of the house and pushed him down the patio steps. Margoliash fell to the pavement below and fled.

The couple was treated for their injuries at a local hospital.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including one police department's K-9 unit, searched for Margoliash but initially could not find him.

Then, at 5:18 a.m., police received a call from a skilled nursing facility in the 1600 block of Fifth Avenue about a man claiming to be a transportation service employee who wanted to take elderly patients to Santa Rosa.

When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that Margoliash had been in and out of the facility multiple times, claiming to be a patient transport service employee. Employees at the facility asked for identification but were unable to verify the person's claims. Staff members determined that Margoliash was lying, prevented him from admitting patients, and he left the facility.

However, two nurses were still following Margoliash and alerted police officers in the area, who took the suspect into custody.
