Incoming border czar Tom Homan came out to Chicago this week to say mass deportations would begin in the Windy City, telling residents that “the mayor and the governor suck.”
The former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has called on Mayor Brandon Johnson and Gov. JB Pritzker to “come to the table” in support of a massive deportation plan. The Chicago Sun-Times reported.
But when it comes to Johnson, “If he doesn't want to help, get out of his way.”
Both Mr. Johnson and Mr. Pritzker have vowed to support city and state sanctuary city policies that protect immigrants from federal agents.
Homan made the fiery remarks Monday at a holiday party hosted by Law and Order PAC and the Northwest Side Republican Club.
“Chicago is in trouble because the mayor and governor are horrible,” Homan said.
The next Border Patrol chief also vowed to arrest all immigration criminals caught.
“When they go looking for that bad guy, and when they find him, he's probably going to be with other people,” he said. “Other people who aren't a priority because they're not criminals. But guess what? They'll get arrested too.”
“Because he put me in that position. So he wants to play the game, and I'll play that game,” he added.
Johnson's office did not immediately respond to The Post's request for comment.
Homan previously told the Post that President Trump may consider withholding federal funds from sanctuary jurisdictions.
He also said at the holiday party that it is possible to separate migrant families, even if that is not the ultimate goal.
“My goal is to enforce the law, but if you put yourself in that position, that might happen,” he said. “But right now this administration has no plans to separate families. It just doesn't. But we're going to enforce the law. So if you're ever put in that position. , it is your responsibility.”
Mr. Pritzker has called Mr. Homan's proposal “illegal” and has already vowed to take legal action.
On Wednesday, the governor said he would meet with the incoming Trump administration, but said his responsibility was to protect immigrants.
“He doesn't have the authority to do what he says he's going to do,” Pritzker said. According to WGN9. “Being Border Emperor is not an official position.”
Chicago received 51,000 immigrants From August 2022 onwards.
Many of those were the result of Texas Governor Greg Abbott's bus drive, which delivered more than 36,000 buses from the southern border to the Windy City.
Homan met with New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday to discuss the Big Apple's immigration crisis, the worst in the country.
