The Oklahoma State Department of Education has proposed a rule that would require schools to report the number of undocumented immigrants enrolled in K-12 public schools.
Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced proposed rule On Wednesday, parents will be required to provide proof of citizenship when enrolling their children in public schools, and schools will be required to report how many people are unable to do so. The proposal is part of a growing effort to combat illegal immigration, reduce the “incredible burden on taxpayers” and eliminate “sanctuary schools,” Walters said as shared on X Explained in the video.

“Each school district shall record the number of students enrolled in the district where the child's parent or legal guardian, or the released minor, was unable to provide proof of citizenship or legal immigration status.” says the proposal. Schools would then be required to report the total number of students without proof of citizenship to the state Department of Education.
The law does not prevent the children of illegal immigrants from receiving an education, nor does it go after specific individuals who lack proof of citizenship, the text states.
The State Board of Education is expected to vote on the proposed rules in early 2025.
In October, Mr. Walters letter Vice President Kamala Harris, the Biden administration's “border czar,” is demanding reimbursement of $474.9 million in illegal immigration payments that were apparently paid to Oklahoma taxpayers in education costs alone under the Biden-Harris administration. For that. The letter states that from 2021 to 2023, nearly 3,000 unaccompanied immigrant children will be sent to Oklahoma, and many more “unaccompanied illegal immigrant children” will enter the state. It is said that he did.
In his letter, Walters also pointed to the roughly 500,000 unaccompanied minors encountered at the border during the Biden-Harris administration.
“Kamala Harris' border fiasco has directly placed a huge economic burden on all Americans, especially Oklahomans,” Walters said. said In a press release at the time. “Oklahomaans are kind, hard-working people who can no longer bear to be held accountable for the failures of the federal government. We cannot effectively budget and allocate critical resources if we do not account for the costs that illegal immigration imposes on schools.”
Mr. Walters has launched sweeping education reforms in the state in recent months, but he has faced legal challenges as well as criticism from the left. His proposals include requiring Bible classes in public schools and banning drag queens and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in K-12 schools.
