On CNN's “News Central” on Thursday, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) called President-elect Donald Trump a “carnival barker” who makes “ridiculous” threats.
Asked about President Trump's recent comments about the Panama Canal and Greenland, Wasserman Schultz said, “It's just ridiculous to suggest that we're going to send troops to Panama to take back the Panama Canal.” Ta. As I mentioned earlier, we have a treaty with Panama and we have a free trade agreement with Panama. We're not going to take back the Panama Canal any more than Panama is going to invade and take the Mississippi River from us. ”
She added: “What we need to do is make sure we strengthen our relationships with allies and treaty partners like Panama, and stop the ridiculous carnival touts of buying Greenland, which is not for sale.'' Don't make threats like that. They're going to invade Panama and take back the canal.”
Discussing Social Security, Wasserman Schultz said, “Republicans are once again showing that carnival barkers don't understand the meaning of retirement plans that have been paid for generations for 80 or 60 years.'' It proves that we have arrived.” With Medicare, our seniors deserve safe and secure retirement benefits and health care, and they don't have to worry about dying because they don't have such insurance. That's what Trump and his cronies in Congress are guaranteeing in the coming chaotic Congress. ”
