King Randall, founder of X for Boys in Albany, Georgia, admits he used to “hate white people.”
Now, at just 25 years old, Randall isn't just changing minds, he's changing the world.
“Our organization was founded in January 2019. I first started working with children when I was 19 years old. We took him to historical museums and things like that,” Randall said. glenn beck On “The Glenn Beck Podcast.”
While running a free summer camp for children, Randall noticed that about 15 of the 20 children attending could not read. And over the years, his program has grown and so have the children's skills.
“So what we're trying to do now is make it a program where after school runs every day from at least 2 to 9 p.m., when parents get off work, when they get out of school,” Randall explained. do.
“In my opinion, these kids are going out and raising themselves and I think social media is helping them end. These kids are committing suicide, but it's not their fault. It’s not just that they don’t have well-meaning parents or fathers at home, they work all day long,” he continued.
“Social media is toxic,” Glenn agrees.
Children have more opportunities than ever before, but they also have more excuses than ever.
“Our ancestors, especially African Americans, went through real hell,” Randall tells Glenn. “From the Jim Crow era to slavery, they went through real hell. And they were still successful. They still read better than we do. Booker T. Washington I read a book called “Recovering from Slavery'' with my children, and it said, “Imagine that a former slave has a better vocabulary than you.''
“He had to wake up every day and teach himself how to read,” he continues. “We have Wi-Fi, we have a bed, and we don't have to worry about waking up in the middle of the night because the Klu Klux Klan isn't coming to get grandpa or anything like that.”
“So to be walking around here with all this access to information, books, schools, etc., and to be running around here saying, 'We're hurting, something is happening,' is a slap in the face to our ancestors. I think it's a slap in the face. There's nothing going on, it's not the work ethic,” he added.
