Nicole Kidman broke down in tears on stage as she dedicated the International Star Award to her late mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, at the Palm Springs Film Festival.
The 57-year-old actress was presented with the award by her friend Jamie Lee Curtis at the 36th International Film Awards ceremony on Friday.
Inside the clip shared on social media, Kidman was overcome with emotion during her acceptance speech, telling the audience she was “still grieving” for Janelle, who passed away in early September 2024. Kidman learned of her mother's death shortly after arriving at the Venice Film Festival, where she won the Best Actress award. She appeared in “Baby Girl” but did not attend the ceremony to attend with her family.
“I want to dedicate it… because I couldn't do it at the Venice Film Festival,” Kidman said through tears. “I arrived in Venice and she was gone.''

The Australian native recalled asking Baby Girl director Halina Reign to accept the award on her behalf in Venice.
“But now I'm on stage, and I'm back here,” Kidman said, as the audience erupted in applause.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to say, 'This is for my mom,'” she added, wiping away tears as Curtis reached out and clasped her hand.

“My whole career was about my mom and dad, who are no longer here,” Kidman said. “But I still want to keep working and contributing to the world, because I love what I do, and I love you all, and I'm so grateful for the privilege of being part of the film community.” Thank you.”
“I'm sorry I cried. I didn't want to, but I feel you right now. This is for you, Mom.”

While accepting Kidman's award in Venice, Lane released the Moulin Rouge star's statement announcing her mother's death.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to say, 'This is for my mom.'”
“Shortly after arriving in Venice, I learned that my beautiful and brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, had passed away,” Kidman said in a statement, according to the newspaper. Associated Press. “I'm in shock and have to go to my family. But this award is for her. She shaped me and made me who I am.”
A representative for Kidman later told Fox News Digital: “The family is grieving and requests privacy at this time.”

Kidman was also absent from the premiere of Baby Girl on September 10th at the Toronto International Film Festival.
On September 12, Kidman and her sister Antonia Kidman expressed gratitude for the support they received as they dealt with their mother's death.

“My sister, my sister, and our family would like to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week,” they wrote. Jointly posted on Instagram.
“All the messages we have received from people who loved and respected our mother mean more to us than we can ever express. As we care for each other, we request your privacy.” Thank you to all my family for their respect.”
The actress received critical acclaim for her performance in the erotic thriller Baby Girl, which also stars Antonio Banderas and Harris Dickinson. Kidman was also nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globe Awards, which will air Sunday night.

Kidman stars in the second season of Taylor Sheridan's Paramount+ series “Lioness,” which debuted in October. She will next be seen in Amazon Prime Video's upcoming show Scarpetta, which is based on Patricia Cornwell's book series of the same name.
Curtis will play Kidman's sister in Scarpetta, and both actresses will serve as executive producers on the project.

At the Oct. 23 premiere of Lioness, Kidman reflected on how she felt about her recent wave of career success.
“I wish my mom was here,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “All I have to say is this: Everything is going well at work, but I wish Mommy was here.
“It was tough,” she added. “It's been a tough road. I'm trying my best.”
