An Indian-American doctor who reportedly kept two illegal immigrants in his home as servants for low wages (between $3,000 and $7,200 a year) has had his medical license permanently revoked. It was done.
Dr. Harsha Sahni has had her medical license revoked for allowing two Indian women to stay in the country illegally as domestic servants for low wages, a source said. report by Deccan Herald.
Last February, Mr. Sahni, who practiced in New Jersey, pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to conceal and conceal illegal aliens and filing false tax returns.
She admitted harboring the two women for financial gain and leading them to believe that they would be arrested and deported if they interacted with authorities.
Mr. Sahni also admitted that he used women to work as domestic workers, even though he knew they were paid less than he would have to pay if he had hired legal domestic workers.
Additionally, Mr. Sahni admitted that he ordered the women to lie to immigration officials that they were relatives of his and were in the United States only for tourist purposes.
Mr. Sahni also confessed that he did not pay taxes on the women's work and did not disclose the women's work on his personal income tax returns.
The state also accused Mr. Sahni of forcing one of the women who lived in his home to work for her from about 7 a.m. to about 10 p.m. for about $240 to $600 a month. The money was then transferred to the victim's family in India.
Mr. Sahni was sentenced by a federal judge in October 2024 to 27 months in prison, and is scheduled to complete his sentence soon.
“The revocation announced today raises concerns that a physician sworn to uphold the highest standards of care and compassion has exploited and abused vulnerable victims for his own financial gain,” said Attorney General Matthew Platkin. This will bring an end to what should have been an incident.”
Meanwhile, Consumer Affairs Commissioner Kari Fais said, “Mr. Sahni's treatment of the women he illegally harbored as cheap labor for him and his family violates the most basic rules of the medical profession. This violation caused unimaginable pain to the victim.”
“Only by permanently revoking her medical license can we adequately protect the state of New Jersey and its residents from the danger she posed as a practicing physician,” Feis added.
Indians can enter the United States using B-1/B-2 tourist and business traveler visas. However, they are not allowed to work.
