An illegal group of foreign activists has organized patrols to disrupt the attacks by immigrants and customs enforcement in Southern California, claiming they have stopped multiple attacks.
The patrol said members identified a gathering of ice agents at the target parking lot in the Alhambra and sent activists along with speakers to fight off officers. A video posted on social media showed that the agent was finally leaving the area.
“No one was taken after the agents saw that they were being documented and that people were warning the community through megaphones.”
a KTTV-TV Report Alhambra police said they have confirmed they have received warnings from the FBI about a meeting involving a large number of agencies at Target parking lots due to arrests near the area.
Activists call themselves the Union del Barrio and claim they saw five ice cars at the rally.
“Our people had megaphones, they called for backup to our people and they went to both places,” Ron Gosches told KTTV.
The group says that members' actions are legal and have organized such efforts since 1992.
Target's business officials said they were unaware of the business and no one in the store was involved. Employees and workers reportedly did not notice the business.
“Agents saw that they were being recorded and saw that people were warning the community through megaphones, and no one was taken, and those ice agents reported retreating and leaving the community. I'm so happy to do that,” Gosches continued.
ICE did not check with KTTV if the agents were raiding.
“Based on intelligence-oriented leads, ICE personnel will not indiscriminately target non-citizens,” read the department's statement.
Gosches accused the agency of targeting the “brown people” they gather, claiming that the ice is lying only to target illegal criminal foreigners.
“It's a lie that they say they're just looking for criminals. They go wherever brown people are, wherever they go,” he said. “That's what they're looking for. We're the target. We're not going to fall into that lie!”
Union del Barrio claims it has suspended another enforcement action in the city of San Fernando and is currently seeking more volunteers from the community to support these efforts.
