The teen was arrested and charged with pose a massive threat of harm, officers said.
A statement issued by Dr. Kathleen Bannon, principal of Copiague Public Schools, told the family that the school first noticed a disturbing post around midnight.
“I'll allow it [police] Time to safely conduct their investigation, we decided to delay the opening of the middle school building today,” Bannon wrote. “The investigation took longer than expected and classes were cancelled all day in middle school.”
Authorities also searched the boy's home and found no weapons, Bannon said.
“The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority,” the director wrote. “District officials and law enforcement agencies take all threats seriously and will thoroughly investigate each incident.”
