Witkoff says Putin ‘accepts the philosophy of President Trump’ on ending the war

Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin has shown that he “accepts President Trump's philosophy.”

The US and Ukraine reached an agreement last week on a 30-day ceasefire plan. Trump and Putin are scheduled to discuss the proposal this week, Witkov told CNN's “The State of the Union” on Sunday.

“I don't want to put words in Putin's mouth, but I think he shows that he is embracing President Trump's philosophy,” Witkov told CNN's “Union States” on Sunday, days after meeting with the Russian dictator.

“President Trump wants to end this, and I think Putin wants to put an end to this,” Witkov said.

The US envoy met with Putin for about four hours on Thursday to discuss the war. Russian leaders have agreed to the concept of pursuing a ceasefire, but have publicly said they have stopped unconditionally supporting Trump's proposal and warned that it has “nuance.”

US Special Envoy Steve Witkov on Sunday insisted to CNN that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is interested in a ceasefire.

Many observers believe that Russians want many of the important issues decided in the ceasefire contract before they agree to the ceasefire measures as well. In contrast, Ukrainians are calling for a quick ceasefire following negotiations for a broader agreement to end the war.

One of the key fixed points for ending the conflict was the management of four important territories that Russia annexed since Russia was launched three years ago.

Despite its best efforts, Moscow has no complete control over the four regions.

Witkov refused to answer directly when asked by CNN whether he was granting Russian control over any of the territory seized by the United States, calling it “a little too early to get into it now.”

Trump leaned hard on Zelensky to force the Ukrainians to support the ceasefire contract, and the White House temporarily freezes military aid and shares intelligence towards Ukraine.

Zelensky and Trump are also notoriously known for clashes at the White House late last month over talks.

After Ukraine agreed to the proposal for a ceasefire, the Trump administration restored military aid to Kiev and sharing intelligence news.

Prior to his upcoming speech with President Putin, the president said General Keith Kellogg would serve only as a special envoy to Ukraine. Kelog had previously served as envoys for both Ukraine and Russia, but the Kremlin seemed wary of dealing with him.

“General Kellogg, a highly respected military expert, will deal directly with President Zelensky and the Ukrainian leader,” Trump said on Saturday.

Secretary of State Marko also spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the next steps in his efforts to end the war.

“I think everyone has to focus on progress that has progressed since the president took office,” Witkov said of the negotiations. “No one has hoped for progress so quickly. This is a very complicated situation, but it still bridges the gap between the two sides.”
