Conservatives on social media and public squares are increasingly speaking out about bills being contemplated in the Texas Legislature.
Some conservatives are rebelling against proposals in the Texas Senate that will give states broader powers to manage new data centers in the state. SB6, or “Data Center Invoice”, He recently brought conservative opposition to the bill's gaining momentum, claiming that if it passes it would pose a major obstacle to the “golden age” of the Trump administration of America's energy production.
Texas has long been believed to be an ideal location for AI fueling data centers, and is a major location in President Trump's multi-billion-dollar Stargate plan and is considered a finalist in other multi-billion-dollar projects and investments over the next decade.
However, SB6 regulations issue regulations that grant the state's broad authority to control both data center use and cost measurements that may dig into the producer margins of the data center. Critics say it could make the state an attractive place for these investments and potentially give China the race to control AI.

“AI data centers use a lot of power. Big AI companies can pay these costs, but small businesses will find it difficult to build.” Posted on x. “Texas Republicans need to think about this through this. Conservatives should not support blocking competition.”
“President Trump's quest for AI control is about to derail with a bill offered in the Texas Senate,” conservative commentator Grant Stinchfield Posted on x. “SB6 could literally cost a $500 billion Stargate project in Texas. I can't believe it's telling Texas how bad overregulation is actually!”
“Texas Senate Bill 6 (SB6) is a bad idea. It threatens to challenge President Trump's vision for AI control and the need for the US to invest in domestic data centers.” Posted on x While tagging state Republican Lt. Col. Dan Patrick. “If you want to win and restrain American innovation from China, this seems like a bill that will do that.”

“All families using electricity + businesses will be affected by SB6 voted by the committee today,” the Texas Consumer Association Posted on X. “Read our full statement here. Big takeaway: As it is written, it is anti-consumer. Despite the glitter, some are sprinkling around it. We work to fix it.”
Vance Ginn, a senior fellow at the Pelican Institute of Public Policy, told Fox News Digital that the bill “will use more than 75 megawatts of electricity to impose unnecessary regulations on large energy consumers, limit competition and increase costs.”
“Instead of regulating electricity use and supporting energy sources through tax deductions and subsidies, Texas should focus on not getting in the way of government to ensure a truly rich, energetic economy and a prosperous economy,” Zinn said.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Patrick said his agenda is consistent with President Trump.
“We have made it clear that we are lockstepping with the president with the goal of making America number one in AI, data centers and cryptocurrency and dominating China,” Patrick said. “Just a few weeks ago, it passed SB 21, the Texas Bitcoin Reserve, and became the nation's largest red state to create a Bitcoin Reserve along the president. We can't even get close to Texas on these important issues.”
“Texas is the only state with its own power grid. SB6 strengthens, expands and protects the grid to meet the significant growth needed to achieve these goals. In Texas, it is under construction in Texas, including its President's Stargate plan.
Patrick, Who listed SB6 One of his top priorities for 2025 was previously telling Fox News Digital that there was “no sunlight” between himself and President Trump when it comes to energy and AI projects.

“I am fully supporting the President and his Stargate plan. We are perfectly in line with our desire to see Texas and America's leads in AI, data centers and crypto.” Patrick said. “These industries have to supply their own electricity needs and are committed to that goal, so costs will not shift disproportionately to residential and small business customers.”
Supporters of the bill argue that changes to the Texas power grid are needed to protect it from the vulnerability that has become a major concern after the winter storm caused the grid to kneel in 2021, resulting in hundreds of deaths.
