Tom Cruise thanked the British Film Institute after announcing that he would receive the highest praise, the BFI Fellowship.
“I am truly honored to receive this approval,” Cruz said. “I've been making movies in the UK for over 40 years and have no plans to stop.”
He continues. “The UK is home to very talented professionals, including actors, directors, writers, crews and more. It's some of the most stunning places in the world. We're grateful for all the BFIs we've done to support British filmmaking and this incredible art form.”
Cruise spends a lot of time in the UK and has a considerable portion of many of his projects based here. Mission: Impossible films were filmed in London, Birmingham and Yorkshire locations. Other UK-based credits include interviews with legends, vampires, the edge of tomorrow, and eyes wide-closed.
BFI Chairman Jay Hunt said: “Tom has brought a lot to the UK as a producer, and he chose to make many of his films on our shores.
She continued. “In doing so, he supports our studio, creates jobs on the world stage and in the process, inspires the next generation of film talent. Of course, he simply is a great actor and one of the true film stars in the world, delighting audiences as an action hero and romantic lead, and surprises us with Brave.
The “conversation” event with Cruise takes place on May 11th, the day before he receives a fellowship, and begins a month-long season of his film.
Former BFI fellows include David Lean, Bette Davis, Kurosaki Aki, Osmane Senbane, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Powell, Emerick Pressberger, Orson Wells, Thelma Schoonmaker, Derek German, Martin Scorsese, Satyajit Ray, Michael Ozoo and most recently Yasujiro Ozoo, Wilson, Spike Lee and Christopher Nolan.
In 2022, Cruise received the Honor Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival in France. He also won three Golden Globes and was nominated for four Oscars. In December 2024, he was awarded the US Navy's highest civil honour, the Recognized Public Service Award, in recognition of his “notable contributions” to the military through Top Gun and its sequels, rather than a cocktail, for example.
One of the best for sale movie stars of all time and one of the best rewards, he is also a well-known advocate for the Church of Scientology and is thought to have a home near the UK headquarters in East Grinstead, West Sussex.
