Is Trump’s ‘strategic Bitcoin reserve’ a good idea? Crypto expert explains

President Donald Trump highlights his campaign promise to turn the United States into the crypto capital of the planet by joining cryptocurrency in his second term.

Marty Bent, managing partner of Crypto Expert and Ten31, is excited about Trump's move, particularly the strategic Bitcoin reserve.

“I think one thing I'm looking forward to is that it's inscribed in the law. Now we have an executive order. As we saw in the executive order from administration to administration, if the other side of the aisle takes office in 2028, they can have a dispute.”

“So, leading a strategic Bitcoin reserve to the law is my number one priority,” he continues. “And I think the way it is laid out in the Ramis bill is great for two reasons.”

One of these reasons states that Bitcoin is described in the bill as an asset worth holding and is trying to accumulate as much as possible to try to override citizen debt.

“And what's just as important, but not often spoken in reality is the right to be independent,” he says.

“So, I think it's a big thing for the country to accumulate Bitcoin with the intention of invalidating national debts that have become out of control and entitled to hold and send Bitcoin without using a central third party,” he adds.

However, under the Biden administration, Bent explains, “There was concern that the law would pass to make it a success, so we need to use a central third party to access Bitcoin.”

This makes it even more important for the Trump administration to focus on binding self-custody to the law.

“That's incredible,” he says.
