After learning that he would not receive overtime pay, President Donald Trump offered to pay astronauts who were stuck in space from “his own pocket.”
At a press conference in the Oval Office on Friday, Fox News' Peter Doucy said the astronauts received about $1,430 for the extra nine months they stayed in space, thanks to $5 a day per Diem.
“They got $5 a day per DIEM for 286 days. That's $1,430 on an extra salary. Is there anything the administration can do? Doucy asked Trump.
“Well, no one ever mentioned this to me,” replied the president. “If I have to, I'll pay it from my pocket, is it okay? I'll get it. I'll care about it. I think I like it. I'll pay it right away.
Trump then praised SpaceX CEO Elon Musk for helping astronauts safely bring back to Earth from the International Space Station.
By the way, I would like to thank Elon Musk. You know, despite them being in capsules there, after 9 or 10 months, the body starts to deteriorate, and after 14 or 15 months, the bones and blood get worse and it starts to get really worse. Who else will get them? And I just want to thank him.
Trump emphasized that masks will withstand “many” as Tesla's property is a target for arson.
He has experienced a lot, what they are doing to him, and these people will be caught…and they will be prosecuted. And from what they said to me, I see this just by looking at your program and reading the news, but from what they say to me, they can go to prison for 20 years, and they get it, I tell you. There is no generosity, no amnesty, I can tell you that now.
Attorney General Pam Bondy released accusations Thursday against three individuals allegedly attempting to obscure Tesla properties across the country.
“The days of committing crimes without consequences are over,” Bondi said in a press release. “Let's make this a warning. If you join this wave of domestic terrorism against Tesla's property, the Department of Justice will put you behind the bar.”
