Another race hoax? School board member charged after allegedly planting noose on her own desk

Members of the Allentown, Pennsylvania school board appeared to have created a lace hoax by making ropes and planting them on desks.

At about 7:40am on January 10, Allentown Police Station received a call from Latalsha Brown, a 42-year-old city employee and a member of the Board of Education. Brown reported 30 minutes ago that she had arrived at a desk on the third floor of City Hall and discovered “what she believed was lying there.”

“This kind of behavior has long plagued our community.

Brown reportedly admitted to police that she picked up the item and took a photo, but did not “more than that.” She fired again immediately Long email To her work colleagues, on the surface, it is about allegations of the incident.

Within a few days, community activists gathered outside city hall to demonstrate that it is expected.Hate crimes“All is enough,” said Benjamin Haley, pastor of Union Baptist Church, who called it a “symbol of hatred,” which is said to be Noos.

“These actions have long plagued our community and serve as tragic memories of works that are still going ahead,” added Rep. Napoleon Nelson (D-Montgomery), chairman of Pennsylvania's Black Caucus legislator. “I was deeply disappointed, but unfortunately I'm not surprised.”

By then, law enforcement was already busy investigating the allegations of Noos. Officers identified all city employees who accessed the third floor of City Hall until Brown returned to work on the afternoon of January 9th.

Officers also asked if each employee would be willing to provide a sample of their DNA. “All city employees, except Brown, agreed,” the APD statement said, but she ultimately reversed the course after the Lehigh County DA office secured a search warrant.

At one point, Brown seemed obviously losing interest in reaching the bottom of the rope. She said she was “initially supportive,” but Brown said she “successfully requested that the investigation be cancelled later.”

Her request was clearly denied as Noos and her DNA samples were sent to the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Institute for testing.

On March 10, the PSP Forensic DNA Division issued a report claiming that “Mr. Brown's DNA was consistent with the DNA profile obtained from both the outer swab and the inner tied portion of the Nuth.” The APD reiterated that “other person's DNA profiles” were found in evidence collected in connection with the case.

On Monday, the APD announced that Brown was accused of tampering or producing physical evidence and filing false reports. Together, the charges will pose a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $7,500 fine.

“Ratalsha Brown is innocent. Ratalsha Brown deserves justice.

Police not only have forensic evidence that brown has created a racial hoax, but other circumstantial evidence may point to possible motives.

By the time the suspicious Noose appeared at her desk, Brown had already filed discrimination complaints against her colleagues and had emailed her boss on January 9th – the day before she found the apparent noose – inquired about resolving those complaints via mediation, Lehigh Valley Newscited court documents.

After finding the alleged noose, she emailed her boss again, claiming she had reached her “breakpoint.”

Brown did not respond to requests for comment from Lehigh Valley News.

Reports that Noos' suspicions were first broken, and Allentown Mayor Matt Tooke voiced concerns, calling it “terrifying and unacceptable.” But he doesn't seem to be too sure of its validity now.

“It's doubly shocking that employees do that — maybe she created this case.” Tuerk said After Brown was indicted.

Still, Brown has supporters who believe she is an innocent victim of a malicious hate crime. Activist Josie Lopez, who coordinated the Nooth protest in January, argued that the charges were a “smear campaign” against “retaliation” for bold “retaliation” of “facing injustice.”

“Latalsha Brown is innocent. Latalsha Brown deserves justice,” urged Lopez.

“I ask Allentown, the media and everyone who believes in justice to stand with Ratarsha. We will not be silent.”

Brown is an elected member Allentown Education Committeeand her term expires this year. However, according to Lehigh Valley News, she has not yet filed documents to run for reelection, and the deadline for submission expired last week.
