Former US attorney Jessica Aber suspected to have died from ‘natural causes,’ police say

Police say the death of a body in Alexandria, Virginia over the weekend was believed to have been “natural cause.”

The body of 43-year-old Jessica D. Abber was found at her Alexandria home on Saturday, but the Alexandria Police Department says they have not found any evidence of a foul play.

“At this time, detectives have found no evidence to suggest that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes,” police said in a statement Tuesday.

Authorities continue to investigate, and police say the case will remain open until medical inspectors return the final verdict on how she died. Police also urged the public to respect the privacy of Abber's family.

In her resignation letter, she called her role “an immeasurable honor.”

“I am deeply grateful to Sen. Mark Warner, Tim Kane and President Biden, and to Attorney General Garland for his opportunity to lead this office and for his unwavering leader,” she wrote, referring to two senators representing Virginia. “I am proud of the work I have done with federal, state and local law enforcement partners to enforce the law and build community trust.”

During her tenure, she charged cases involving leaks from the CIA and Russian citizens who engaged in fraud in the United States.

One of her biggest legal victories came just before her resignation when former CIA analyst Asif Rahman pleaded guilty to leaking secret documents about Israeli plans to attack Iran.

Rahman was accused of posting documents about Israeli strikes at Telegram last year, and led the country's troops to curb the initial plan.

Abbah criticized Rahman's actions as “a violation of his oath, liability and law,” saying that Leak “has risked his life, undermined US diplomatic relations and violated his ability to gather important intelligence in the future.”

In 2019, Aber received the Department of Justice Assistant Advisor Award.
