President Donald Trump is under pressure on dozens of House Democrats to prove that Special Government Employee Elon Musk will step down from his post by May 30thth.

In a letter to Trump on Wednesday, 77 Democrat members led by Rep. Greg Cassal (D-Texas) reminded President Trump that the tech giant goto can only hold its position as SGE for a total of 130 days.
“According to 18 USC §202(a), SGE is “an officer or employee… with or without compensation, for a period not exceeding 130 days in a row, 365 consecutive days, with or without compensation,” the U.S. Federal Bureau of Labor Relations.
77 Democrat letters read:
“In light of Musk and repeated violations of the law by your administration, we request an immediate official statement from your administration, making it clear that Musk will resign and waive all decision-making powers required by the law by May 30thth,” they wrote.
“In his short time in government, Elon Musk has done a great deal of harm to working Americans,” they continued, adding, “While millions of Americans suffer, Musk continues to enrich himself and break ethics laws.”
Casar also argued that his party had “the legal tools we can use at our disposal, the political tools we can use at our disposal,” and that he had “the full power of public pressure.”
Musk's tenure as a special civil servant (SGE) under the second Trump administration has sparked serious controversy and criticism from Democrats. In his time as a SGE, he led a campaign aimed at saving trillions of federal spending, revealing a wide range of cases of fraud and waste within government.
This includes massive cuts to the entire federal workforce, particularly in his ability as an informal leader in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Beyond Doge, Musk's wide business network has frequently sparked concerns about Democrats. Left-wing politicians have argued that his inclusion in the Trump administration is a “conflict of interest,” and that many of his businesses are profiting from government contracts.
Despite this, Tesla CEO says he intends to complete the job in a 130-day window. Last month he said Fox News'Bret Baier says he hopes to finish most of his Doge work during that period.
Politics Trump also reported that Musk has already informed his close circle that he will leave his position in the coming weeks.
On Wednesday, a House Democrat group continued to urge the president to formally confirm Musk's resignation.
“For the benefit of the nation, Elon Musk should be removed from his position immediately,” they wrote. “Under the law, Musk will not be able to remain in his position after May 30th.th. ”
