CNN anchor Jake Tapper said Monday that the Trump administration relies on “flaky” evidence in the case of Kilmer Abrego Garcia, who was sent to El Salvador prison.
Tapper said, “Let’s take a quick look at Garcia’s several important backgrounds, who is married to a US citizen. He has her and two stepchildren. Garcia is a citizen of El Salvador and it is true that he illegally entered the United States around 2011. MS-13 strongly denies that in 2019 Garcia and three other men were arrested. MS-13, he was denying it at the time.
He continued, “Now later that year, the immigrant judge recognized Garcia’s protective status and allowed him to stay legally in the United States, and Garcia was responsible for his deportation, but the judge said he should be protected by El Salvador. Not only El Salvador in the infamous prison there, but Trump officials, who claimed he was deported first, but rather clinged to him.
“Yeah, I think most people probably have the issue of being deported to a more infamous prison than he has problems with being deported in general,” Tupper said.
