It was a troublesome Jets divorce from Aaron Rodgers’s point of view.
The 41-year-old quarterback broke off the offseason silence on Thursday with the “Pat McCuffy Show” and opposed how New Jets coach Aarong Len and his team handled the decision to move on from him.
Rodgers said he flew across the country from California to New Jersey because he expected a long meeting on February 9th about his future.
Instead, Rodgers claimed the Jets ended the meeting after 40 minutes, and Glenn began by “running through the room” to acquire general manager Darren Moothie.
“That was a bit strange…” Rogers said. “I think we’re going to have this long conversation. I’m flying around the country for 20 seconds. And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested.’ And he was saying, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.’
“I was a bit shocked, I didn’t think it was possible, but I was shocked because I just flew across the country and you told me this on the phone.”
Rodgers said the Jets’ only concern was how he released the information and wanted a “message” that comes with the announcement.
“I don’t give as – t about the message. Why?” Rogers said.
Rogers argued that Glenn was concerned that if Rogers would “weak” his message to the team if he continued to be part of the roster, explaining the controversial conversation between the two.
“It was certainly a very strange meeting,” Rogers said. “I didn’t plead with you, ‘Take me to the team.’ I don’t want to be a part of it.
Rogers later spoke to Moosie and said that Christopher Johnson, the brother of owner Woody Johnson, was very free.
Glenn is packed with the Jets’ decision to split with Rogers and was upset when asked repeatedly about it at the NFL Scouting Combine.
“We don’t want to downplay the other players we have on our team,” Glenn said. “It’s making me mad and some of the other players are all talking about. You have Quinnen Williams. You have Quinnen Williams. You have Quincy Williams. You have [Alijah Vera-Tucker]. You have Joe Tipman. All of them should be respected as long as they win the game as well. ”
Rogers spent two years with the team. One ended after four plays due to Achilles’ injury, and the other was a disappointing 5-12.
Head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas were fired during the tragic 2024 campaign and replaced by Glenn and Moothie.
This is Glenn’s first head coaching job after spending the past four seasons as the Lions defensive coordinator.
Rodgers has not decided to decide whether to play in the next team, or 2025, as he detailed to McAfee that he is dealing with serious issues in his life.
If Rogers chooses to return to the NFL, the Steelers look like their most logical destination.
