China has warned other countries about attacking new trade contracts with the United States that may come at the expense of Beijing’s economic interests as tensions stemming from President Trump’s tariff policies on the country.
China’s Commerce Ministry said Monday that it will retaliate against China’s interests, any party that reaches a deal that will come at the expense of multiple media outlets. It has been reported.
China said it would “take measures in a decisive and mutual way.” According to news agency Reuters.
The Chinese Embassy to the US did not immediately respond to Hill’s request for comment.
“The unilateral imposition of additional tariffs has been fully launched by the US side,” the Commerce Department said in a social media post Friday. “We urge the United States to immediately stop its biggest pressure tactics.”
After suspending tariffs on the April 2nd “liberation day” on dozens of countries, the Trump administration suspended Chinese tariffs. Although it announced several exemptions against these import taxes, including the import taxes of electronic devices Apple, which deeply integrates China’s supply chain, the overall level remains at 145%.
Executives say they will adhere to requests for negotiations for updated trade deals with dozens of countries.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent said earlier this month that the administration was scheduled to negotiate with up to 70 countries following the announcement of US “mutual” tariffs, initially with only one day left. Trump has brought that number to over 75.
“We can approach China as a group,” Bescent said.
China and the US are digging up their heels in trade negotiations on both sides, with both parties refusing to come to the table.
In a series of moves, Trump increased the country’s tariffs from 54% to 104%, and ultimately increased to 145%.
“At some point, hopefully, in the near future, China will realize that the era of ripping the US and other countries is no longer sustainable or acceptable,” Trump said in a social media post on April 9.
A spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry said there is a basis for US tariffs “until the end.”
