Pennsylvania’s Governor Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, stated on Tuesday that President Trump was “very gracious” when he reached out on Saturday to inquire about an arson incident at the governor’s mansion over the weekend.
“I appreciate that the president took the time to call me on Saturday morning,” Shapiro told reporters during the annual Easter Egg Hunt at the governor’s residence.
According to Shapiro, Trump called from his cell phone, and he initially did not recognize the number, so he let it go to voicemail.
“I wasn’t aware of who it was,” Shapiro noted. “As soon as I listened to his message, I returned his call immediately.”
Shapiro provided a brief outline of the conversation, which lasted over 15 minutes and included several subjects.
“He was very gracious. He inquired about how Lori and the kids were doing. We spoke for a few minutes about what occurred at the residence, then we discussed a range of other topics for another 15 minutes,” Shapiro remarked.
“Of course, I’m not going to disclose the details of our private conversation,” he added.
In a recorded interview from late last week that was broadcast on Sunday, Shapiro informed ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that the president had not reached out to him following the first night of Passover and the subsequent arson early Sunday morning. The governor mentioned that he learned of it from Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel.
