Trump’s Popularity With US Voters Slumps In Opinion Polls

Washington:

President Donald Trump’s popularity has sunk ever since he was furious at the White House, polls said on Wednesday that Americans criticized him for key issues of the economy and immigration.

Republicans unleashed a flood of actions ranging from wiping tariffs to suppressing immigrants, taking into account the overwhelming missions of American voters.

However, an Economist/YouGov survey found a downward trend in Trump’s approval ratings, with 41% of Americans currently signaling support, compared to about half of January.

Another poll by the Pew Research Center found Trump’s employment ratings fell from 47% in February to 40% today. His predecessor Joe Biden’s 59% score is significantly lower than his April 2021 score.

Overall, Trump’s average approval rate of 45% before the first three months is below all other US-elected World Presidents, Gallup said last week.

The results also show that Americans are losing confidence in Trump’s ability to handle important issues such as the economy.

Last year voters considered the 78-year-old billionaire to be strong in the economy, but his imposition of sweep tariffs on trading partners this month has rattled global markets.

According to an Economist/YouGov poll, about 54% of Americans feel their economy is getting worse, compared to 37% in January.

Trump’s approval ratings lag particularly behind the cost of living, with only 31% of Americans approving his performance on the issue, according to a Reuters/IPSOS survey.

Inflation was a hot topic in the November election, and Trump quickly vowed to lower prices as president.

He has seen similar downward trends on immigration – another typical strong area for Trump, where he led a hard-line deportation strategy targeting undocumented immigrants who pitted him in a legal battle with the courts.

An Economist/YouGov poll found that 45% of Americans approved how Trump handles immigrants, compared to 50% two weeks ago.

Polls also show a decline in support among several key demographics that helped Trump return to power over democratic election rival Kamala Harris.

According to Pew Poll, this includes Hispanic voters whose approval scores fell from 36% in early February to 27%.
