New York Attorney General Letitia James tapped criminal defense attorney Abbe Lowell – previously defended by Hunter Biden against federal tax and gun charges – she was fighting mortgage fraud allegations.
According to The Times Union, Lowell, a partner at the law firm of Winston & Strawn LLP, was hired by the New York State Attorney General’s office and was not held personally by James.
The decision to hire prominent white-collar defense lawyer Lowell was filed earlier this month by director of federal housing finance, William Plute, and the bomb detective introduction was filed earlier this month, with the office of James, a civil fraud case that fought against President Trump last year. Hunter was found guilty of three felony cases in a Delaware gun case and pleaded guilty to nine felony cases (three felons and six misdemeanors) in a California tax fraud case last year.
He avoided prison time after receiving an 11-hour pardon from former President Joe Biden in December.
Lowell, who served as a minority adviser to the House during the fiasco-each procedure against President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s, protected prominent Democrats John Edwards and former Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) from federal corruption accusations in 2012 and 2017, respectively.
During Trump’s first term, Lowell represented his eldest son, Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, in the Congress and FBI probes in Russia’s allegations of conspiracy.
