During an episode of News Nation’s “Hill” that aired on Friday, Rep. Ami Bella (D-CA) remarked that President Donald Trump had a “successful” approach concerning the border, noting that “illegal crossings have decreased.” She also mentioned that Democrats “didn’t act quickly enough” when it came to border issues.
Host Blake Berman commented, “You’ve observed the situation at the southern border, particularly with encounters, right? They’ve dropped by over 95% during the Trump administration. Today, the administration stated that they believe a budget of $175 billion should be allocated to enhance border security. I think what sticks out to me is that the president really leveraged that issue for political gain.”
“I think the president has had a win here. The numbers at the southern border and illegal crossings have decreased. The American people supported this, and he delivered on it. Will he require another $175 billion? Well, that’s something to negotiate,” Bella continued.
Later, Berman mentioned, “I’ve heard the president claim credit for immigration issues. You say that, and it will surely backfire within your party.”
Bella replied, “True, but let’s be honest, Joe Biden likely lost the election. We may have lost because we didn’t handle border issues effectively.”
