Divorce lawyer of Ohio nurse Aliza Sherman charged with her murder

Charges Filed in 2013 Murder Case

A former divorce lawyer faces serious charges in connection with the murder of his former client, Aliza Sherman, in downtown Cleveland over a decade ago. Prosecutors announced that Gregory Moore, 51, was charged with aggravated murder, conspiracy, and other offenses related to the killing of the 53-year-old nurse and mother of four.

Officials claim Moore orchestrated the attack to obstruct Sherman’s divorce proceedings, which were set to begin the day after she was killed. This was not Moore’s first act of interference; he had previously pleaded guilty to making bomb threats to delay court proceedings tied to his own cases.

While Dr. Sanford Sherman, Aliza’s estranged husband, was never charged, he did not cooperate with investigators and passed away last summer in Florida.

Prosecutors suspect that Moore may have had an accomplice, although no other suspects have been named. It’s reported that Moore texted Sherman to meet him at his office on March 24, 2013, and insisted on being notified when she was on her way.

Outside Moore’s office, a hooded assailant stabbed Sherman multiple times in the neck and back. Despite her injuries, she managed to call the police and was subsequently aided by a passerby, but she passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.

“The Sherman family has been seeking answers for over a decade regarding their mother’s murder,” stated Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley. “Our investigation has collected robust evidence linking Gregory Moore to the planning and execution of this horrific act.”

According to the indictment, Moore attempted to create an alibi by contacting Sherman before and after the attack through calls and texts, indicating a deliberate effort to mislead authorities.

Moore’s history of attempting to manipulate legal situations included prior charges in 2017 for inducing panic due to bomb threats and providing false information during the investigation into Sherman’s death.

The Ohio Criminal Investigation Bureau resumed the inquiry into Sherman’s murder in 2021, uncovering further evidence against Moore. He is expected to appear in court on May 16th, though no attorneys are listed for him at this point.
