Controversy at Philadelphia Bar Over Anti-Semitic Incident
In a recent incident at a bar owned by Dave Portnoy, known for Barstool Sports, a student reportedly involved in an anti-Semitic display claimed to be targeted by a lynch mob and sought financial support. This revelation has sparked considerable backlash.
Over the weekend, Portnoy expressed his outrage on social media after discovering that two customers and a waitress were spotted holding signs that read “Fuck Jews.” Upon learning of the display, Portnoy made it clear he was furious and intended to take action against those responsible for the incident, stating, “I’ve been shaking. I’ve been so mad for the past two hours. I’m going to make it my mission to ruin these people.”
Portnoy emphasized his commitment to tackling the issue, stating, “Do you think I’m going to hold back this shit at my bar? I want to influence my behavior.”
Following the incident, one of the individuals involved, identified as Mo Kahn, initially accepted responsibility but later described himself as a “citizen journalist.” Portnoy had suggested sending the two men to Auschwitz as a form of education, but rescinded this offer after Kahn’s shift in stance.
Kahn subsequently launched a fundraising campaign, claiming that Portnoy’s actions had unjustly exposed him to threats. He argued, “I’m a 21-year-old college student. I’m not a public figure… This asymmetrical power dynamic is why I made a statement to Dave earlier.”
Kahn defended his right to free speech, mentioning that his parents had worked hard to achieve American citizenship. He also accused Portnoy of hypocrisy, claiming, “Dave has built a reputation against cancel culture, but here he is, lynching me—the innocent young man.” His fundraising effort had raised nearly $8,000 with a goal of $25,000 at the time of reporting.
Portnoy responded to Kahn’s claims, labeling him a liar and asserting that Kahn had initially seemed proud of his actions. He stated, “This guy is a flat liar… He spreads hatred and tries to profit from it.” Portnoy concluded by expressing disbelief at Kahn’s attempt to gain from this situation, stating, “This is the most surprising thing ever.”
