A new bill aimed at addressing the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) practices, particularly regarding forced organ collection, passed overwhelmingly with a 406-1 vote in the House, though one member voted against it. Representative Thomas Massey, a Republican from Kentucky, stood alone in opposition to the Stop Forced Organ Collection Act.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Massey expressed his concerns, suggesting, “This just seems like another case of us meddling in foreign businesses.” He added that such legislation might come off as a “virtue signal” without making a real difference. As a libertarian, Massey typically aligns against bills that pertain to international matters.
Interestingly, some Kentucky Republicans had previously opposed similar measures in past legislative sessions. It’s worth noting that Massey’s dissent is particularly relevant given his role as a critic of House Speaker Mike Johnson, who has connections to Trump.
The bill itself, introduced by Representative Chris Smith from New Jersey, empowers the Secretary of State to deny U.S. passports and visas to individuals involved in the organ trafficking trade. The legislation also calls for sanctions against those linked to this egregious illegal industry.
U.S. lawmakers have accused China of forcibly collecting organs from ideological adversaries, which includes groups such as Falun Gong practitioners and Uyghur Muslims.
