Disturbing Incident of Bullying Caught on Video
A mother in Southern California has addressed a troubling mobile phone video depicting a bully attacking her 10-year-old daughter. The footage shows her daughter, who is in tears, being dragged by her hair into a school restroom while other girls encourage the assault.
After her husband passed away from a heart attack three years ago, Beatrice Hernandez noted that all three of her daughters became targets of bullying. Talking to KTTV-TV, she expressed frustration over the schools’ lack of response to her concerns. “How did it get so bad when we went over and over about my daughters being bullied? It’s disheartening,” she said.
One specific incident she reported involved her daughters being bullied with taunts about their father’s death. “Oh, dad’s gone, hahaha,” her daughter was told, illustrating the cruelty of the situation.
The video, which aired during an interview on April 30, reportedly occurred at Woodworth Monroe Academy just as classes were ending. Hernandez described how her daughter was dragged and attacked despite being accompanied by her siblings and grandmother, who were waiting outside.
“She was literally dragged over. It’s just shocking. How can it get this far when I repeatedly addressed my daughters being bullied?” Hernandez questioned.
In an unexpected turn, Hernandez’s daughter received a suspension for being “involved in the fight,” though it remains unclear if any actions were taken against the other girls. The school district has stated that it is currently investigating the April 30 incident.
Emily Ruby, an expert on school bullying, commented that these types of incidents are becoming more common, especially with videos being shared on social media. California’s legislative efforts, like Seth’s Law, which focuses on protecting bullied students, aim to confront this growing issue.
Frustrated with the school’s response, Hernandez has taken the additional step of filing a report with the Inglewood police.
