Fox News anchor Bret Baier mentioned that President Trump plays a role in the declining trust Americans have in mainstream media.
“Absolutely, he disrupted the system,” Baier commented when discussing Trump’s influence on the media with Politico Playbook. “And perhaps that was part of his objective.”
He further noted, “Yet, many in Central America were skeptical about what they were receiving from a good portion of the media.”
Surveys indicate that traditional media has experienced a significant drop in American confidence regarding major institutions over time.
A Gallup investigation conducted last October, just before the 2024 presidential election, found that over 30% of Americans reported having “great” trust in news media to deliver current information “fairly and accurately.”
Trump has long mocked major media outlets, and during his second term, he sought to pressure networks that he felt were not reporting on him fairly.
While he has consistently criticized Baier’s network regarding election coverage and comments from its usual analysts, he also appointed several Fox hosts and contributors to his cabinet.
